raina mcleod

Own Your PowerRaina McLeod - Writer

Blessed daughter of DC, adopted Miami after the vivrant thing pulled at her heartstrings as a co-ed. Not that her life at Florida A&M was unappreciated, Tallahassee was just tranquil enough to help Raina focus on her studies. But when the time came she ran across that graduation stage with a Bachelor's degree in Journalism in hand, sprinted south and finally found her soul, sun and sand.

A year after arriving on South Beach, Raina joined the Miami New Times as the Assistant Entertainment Editor. As second-in-command for the most widely-read section of the weekly, she gained a reputation for mercilessly teasing local events while painting them as can't-miss affairs. Raina's risqu頲epartee made it clear that the girl truly believes that the only thing that should be sugar-coated are her donuts; and she brought that philosophy to her newest title: sex columnist known as the Magic City Kitty.

Magic City Kitty was born of the idea, that Miami needs a Carrie Bradshaw-ish type of character who gives advice and insight on relationships, but that she should also have whispers of Samantha's audacious spirit, and sprinkles of Charlotte's sophistication. And after a string of boyfriends, a slew of "just friends," and a mandatory group of "f--- hims," Raina had the goods to deliver her own brand of advice to the lovelorn masses. And thus, the Magic City Kitty, a column about life before, during and after sex, was born.

Raina is a unyielding believer in the Jackie O. quote that some women want power in the bedroom, others want power in the world; yet believes that realistically, women (and men) should be allowed to have both. Kitty is admittedly, but not gratuitously bold, and lives with her tongue planted firmly in cheek. Who's ready?

danaDana is a Registered Yoga Teacher and certified Thai Yoga Massage practitioner. She has practiced yoga for more than 5 years and is a member of the International Association of Black Yoga Teachers (IABYT) and the Mid Atlantic Yoga Association (MAYA). To keep classes creative and fun, she continues to attend workshops and has completed teacher trainings with Shiva Rea and Doug Swenson. Dana created Spiritual Essence Yoga in 2003. Excited about the wonderful benefits she experienced through her regular yoga practice, she wanted a way to share her knowledge with others in a safe, non-competitive, and friendly environment. Initially skeptical about yoga herself, Dana knew the common misconceptions and myths surrounding yoga. Her practice began as a physical workout and stress relief from her hectic job as an executive assistant. As she began studying various yoga texts and learned what yoga was (and what it wasn't), her practice became equally physical and spiritual. In addition to yoga, Dana holds a bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in finance.

peter greenlaws

peter greenlawsPeter Greenlaw

Peter Greenlaw's story begins in Portland Maine, in January of 1946. As many of us did, he struggled through school because he had difficulty getting gradation credits for skiing [yes, Peter is a passionate ski-bum], and surprising to many he not only graduated, but develop into a nationally ranked skier and was recruited onto the most prestigious colligate ski teams, at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

After graduating with a degree in marketing, Peter left Colorado for New York City, and the entered into the corporate whirlwind as a successful Wall Street stockbroker. However, Wall Street could not compete with what was to come next into Peters life. A scout for the world renowned Eileen Ford Modeling Agency spotted Peter and within days he was signed; which, led to fashion and modeling assignment that appeared in several hundred magazine, television commercials, a few Off-Broadway productions, and two movies.

One problem remained amidst all the success Peter was experiencing in New York City. Simply, its quite difficult to be an effective ski-bum, and central park doesnt have a ski lift or the needed slopes to challenge a national ranked skier like Peter. It was back to Colorado for Peter.

It was during the mid 1970s and Colorado was growing rapidly, construction was happening everywhere one looked. Taking advantage of the then trend, in 1976 Peter founded Colorado Kitchen Brokers and become the first individual in this industrys history to, in a single year, design, sell, and install over 1 million dollars in kitchen cabinetry.

Rolling the clock forward twenty seven years, the kitchen business is still doing fine, but Peter found himself seriously over weight and commensurate cholesterol level that put him at highest risk for a heart attach. It seemed no amount of dieting and exercise was helping Peter solve his life-threatening problem.
In 2003 Peter made a discovery that not only changed his life, but through him, has also changed the lives of thousands of people. He discovered the nutritional science of internal body cleansing. As a result, Peter quickly reclaimed his health and a quality of life hed not experienced since his thirties. The change to his health was so profound that Peter began a personal research project to understand for himself the effects of environmental toxins to health and their contribution to disease and our ability to loose weight.

The research turned into a passion and over the past few years Peter has become a nationally recognized lecturer on the subject. His Cleansing Forums are a public service that seeks to educate and heighten awareness about the effects of toxins to the health of Americans and their direct link to obesity. A testimonial from a recent lecture is often heard where ever Peter lectures on this topic: I have learned more about why I am fat, tired, and burned-out from this, than from anything Ive heard before and it all makes sense!

Though the topic of toxins can be unpleasant, often shocking, and because if affects is all, less than funny, Peters presentation of this material is highly accessible and entertaining. What started as a personal quest to understand why he was in poor health, tired, and over weight evolved into a personal research project, and now into a passion to share this knowledge with anyone who will listen. People can take action, they can protect themselves, but only if they are informed.

Peter travels extensively and can be found speaking at venues as diverse as Whole Foods, libraries, medical groups, corporations, major health fairs and conventions.
